Destinations

Trout Adventures is about finding all of the world’s trout and grayling.  Find a fish in Trout Around the World to see the country where in can be found and then click on destinations.  Finding all of the different trout does require travel and this page gives a general idea of the travel destinations.  There are links to travel sites that are updated and revised.

North America

The United States, Canada, and Mexico have more species and subspecies of trout than any other Continent.  One of the greatest adventures is catching all of the over thirty different types in this area.  Most reside in the western United States and require effort to reach.  Many of these trout are lake fish so don’t forget your tube.  To catch the rarest trout requires hiking.  These fish are difficult to reach.  Information on North America is on the website www.northamericatrout.com and detailed in the book Trout Adventures North America that is available on Amazon in kindle form.

The Far East

The mysterious Far East is home to the largest trout in the world and terrific grayling fishing.  The Grayling fishing was so good it created another book: The Complete Book about Grayling.  This area includes Japan, South Korea, China, Siberia, the Russian Far East, and Mongolia.  These somewhat unknown countries have terrific trout fishing.  It is probably the best dry fly-fishing destination in the world.  The three prime destinations are the northern island of Hokkaido in Japan, Northern Mongolia, and the Kamchatka Peninsula of the Russian Far East.  Information about the Far East is available on www.fareasttrout.com and in detail in the book Trout Adventures Fly Fishing the Far East and all of the world’s grayling are identified in the grayling book.  Both are available on Amazon.

The Islands of Europe

When I began fishing Europe, it became obvious that there were too many countries to cover in one book.  This large area of islands and countries became three books.  One of the most fun regions to fish was the islands that surround the European Continent.  These islands are where some of the largest trout and salmon in Europe are hiding.  Fishing the British Isles is some of the most technical fly-fishing in the world.  Across the channel in Ireland and strange and wonderful trout.  The highlights of the islands are Iceland and Greenland.  Iceland has some of the largest Brown Trout in the world and Greenland is the best Arctic Char destination.  Both islands have breathtaking scenery and are worth a visit just to see the beauty.  The website for the islands is www.islandstrout.com  and the Amazon book for this area is Trout Adventures Fly Fishing the Islands of Europe.

Europe

Europe has been divided into two regions for travel and fishing.  Mainland Europe and Scandinavia are one area and the Balkan Countries the other.  Europe has Brown Trout and Grayling, but if you look it is possible to find Zebra Trout as well as Arctic Char and Relic Arctic Char in a few countries.  The three greatest prizes in Europe are Sea Trout (Sea-run Brown Trout), Atlantic Salmon, and Huchon.  Huchon are the European form of Taimen and are native to the Danube drainage.  Zebra Trout are found in several countries and are worth a Zebra adventure.  The website for this part of the world is www.western europetrout.com  while the book will be published at a later date.

The Balkan Countries

These countries rival Scandinavia for the best trout fishing destinations in Europe.  There are few dams and some diversity in different types of trout.  There is also a healthy grayling population as well as several rivers with Huchon.  The best trout fishing in this region is in Slovenia.  Not only is there great fishing it is a beautiful country and should be on everyone’s bucket list.  Montenegro and Bosnia also have some good river and interesting trout.  Soft-mouthed Trout and Black Spotted Brown Trout make fishing the rivers interesting and the region worth a visit.  The website for this part of the world is www.easterneuropetrout.com while the book will be released later.

South America

Trout were transplanted into several rivers in the Andes Mountains over 100 years ago.  These fish have flourished and, in several rivers, have become some of the largest trout in the world.  Rainbow, Brown, and Brook can be found in many mountain rivers in Argentina, Chile, and Peru.  Lake Trout exist in a few of the high mountain lakes.  Costa Rica in Central America also has transplanted Rainbow and has to be mentioned as a potential destination.  South America is a good place to look for large Sea-run Brown Trout on the tip of Argentia.  The South America website is www.southamericatrout.com.

Australia/New Zealand

The two islands of New Zealand are well known for big Rainbow Trout.  There are also large sea-run Brown Trout to found in some of the coastal rivers.  The islands of New Zealand have many rivers and many opportunities to catch nice trout.  The real surprise in the part of the world is that the adjacent island of Australia has trout.  The most intriguing place to fish has to be Tasmania.  All of the trout fishing in Southern Australia and Tasmania are supported by stocking but the fish are there.  The website for Australia and New Zealand Trout is www.newzealandaustraliatrout.com.
